Big Day Out 2012, Gold Coast
Highlights include:
The Jezabels: their lead singer really does have an absolutely amazing voice. So beautiful live. They should be way more famous than what they are. I wasn’t planning on seeing them as I’d been to their show in 2011 and they clashed with Odd Future, but please see low-lights.
Foster The People: I wasn’t expecting their set to be as fun as what it was. I danced like a maniac for the entire performance.
The guys from Odd Future: going absolutely mental during Kanye West.
And speaking of Yeezy: my favourite part of his set was when he told off his piano sound dude (yes, I believe that is his ‘technical term’) because he couldn’t hear himself. It was all very Mariah Carey, “stop singing my part now baby” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxshE43LP7w&feature=fvst @ 3.05) I also didn’t mind the 45 minutes delay. It’s Kanye West for fucks sake, what did you expect? At least he lived up to expectation.
Low-lights:
The crowd: at Odd Future. Oh my God I had to leave halfway through. 17 year old girls in high waisted denim shorts and floral bustiers with “SWAG” written down their legs in permanent marker pen. And you know there wasn’t even a hint of irony about it as far as they were concerned… I can’t even.
